New Consulate General in the UK

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Kotsiras, travelled to the United Kingdom for a two day visit (28-29.01.2025) for the inauguration of the Hellenic Consulate General in Manchester.

The new diplomatic mission of the Hellenic Republic in the UK is already fully staffed and operational, and with a jurisdiction encompassing the regions of Central and North England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

During his stay in the UK, Mr. Kotsiras met His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.

The opening ceremony was attended also by the Ambassador of Greece to the UK, Mr. Ioannis Tsaousis and the Consul General in Manchester, Mr. Alexandros Ioannidis.

In his address, Deputy Minister Kotsiras emphasized the importance of the new Consulate General. Its operation will serve a large number of people who will no longer have to travel to London for consular services.

Mr. Kotsiras underlined that strengthening ties with the Greek Diaspora is a national priority, as reflected in MFA Strategic Plan for the Greek Diaspora 2024-2027.

The event was honoured by the presence of Professor George E. Holmes, representing the King of the UK, the British Ambassador to Greece, Matthew Lodge, and the Mayors of Manchester and Liverpool, Paul Andrews and Richard Kemp respectively.
